Teaching Philosophy

As an art teacher, I view myself as an artist, and my students are my masterpieces. Each masterpiece I create stands out in their own way. My goal as an art teacher is to help encourage the students on their path to finding their identity in the art world and everyday life. When you start to create a work of art, it is essential to know what materials you have accessible. The same can be said for teachers as they gauge their materials and students. As an art teacher, it is essential to establish a strong relationship with the students. I strive to create a learning environment for my students that teaches various learning styles and promotes the desire to learn and grow. As I pick up my paintbrush, I ensure each brush stroke has a purpose.
My most important role is to be a mentor. Students should have someone to look up to and help guide them to be their best versions. As an educator, I strive to know my students personally. To do so, I create a classroom where students can feel comfortable discovering and developing their artistic talents. From personal experience, my most influential teacher tried to know each student's strengths and weaknesses. In addition, the teacher would offer a helping hand without hesitation. By doing so, the teacher brought out the best in each student. 
As an educator, you are not only the teacher but the student as well. I am a learner alongside my students. A learner continuously grows and never claims to have all the knowledge. Students will challenge an educator daily with obstacles that will help them to become better teachers. Life can throw many challenges your way, and I support my students by assisting them in navigating through them and learning from these opportunities. I provide them with the materials and knowledge required for each lesson in the classroom. Sometimes, a student will struggle, but I aim to push them to think outside of the box. However, I provide advice and insight when needed. 
The art world has always fascinated me. It is inclusive to everyone and allows individuals to find their identity. Additionally, art enables individuals to express themselves openly. As an art teacher, I encourage my students to feel their emotions and be respectful of their classmates' emotions. My classroom will be their art studio, their space to create. I aim to teach them to be respectful individuals concerning themselves, other people, and other people's belongings. 
As I begin to finish my painting, I take a step back and admire the masterpiece I created. Each brushstroke I place on the canvas has developed into something much more. There are various techniques and mediums to choose from in the art world. However, it is essential to acknowledge that only some artists use the same methods. Each student has strengths and weaknesses, and I remind the students not to compare their skills to someone else's. Every student learns differently, and I strive to find the style that suits them. Life is not a competition but a classroom. I ask my students to push themselves to their full potential and think and work like artists. I provide them with the knowledge and skills needed for the next step.
